SEO or search engine optimization has to be one of the hardest things to understand and once you think you understand it they change everything on you. With social media now playing a huge part in our everyday lives it is thought that these types of backlinks are having an impact on your rankings on search engines. With Googles new social search engine, sites with more +’s may rank higher, at least when a person is signed into their Google account.
What’s more important to take away here is that even old methods of backlinking still hold weight and if done right will greatly benefit your rankings and traffic flow to your pages. These methods, such as acquiring authoritative, relevant links on other sites that are related to your sites content, will always yield great results. These links however are becoming very expensive and unless you are a large sized company the cost does not outweigh the benefits any longer.
So how do you track your link building once you start?
There are a number of tools to help you figure out where you stand in the search engines and where you rank. Many of them are free tools. If you know what keywords you are trying to rank for I recommend using a software program called Rank Tracker. This program allows you to input your target keywords and run a scan which will tell you exactly where your pages are ranking. You can also save projects so you can view what keywords are increasing rank and what ones might be falling. This allows you to pinpoint issues and address them quickly by building more backlinks to the keyword that might be falling.
